The Schluter Lifetime Warranty, Explained

Most tile backer boards and pan liners come with a warranty on the product alone. Schluter goes further: when its products are installed together as a system, the whole assembly can be covered. Here's how it works, based on Schluter's warranty program summary.
The two shower warranties
Schluter-Shower System 10-Year Limited Warranty: covers Schluter shower products designed to work together as one system.
Lifetime Thin-Set System Limited Warranty: can apply when eligible Schluter products (the Schluter Shower System, KERDI or KERDI-DS membranes, DITRA or DITRA-XL, and DITRA-HEAT) are set with a Schluter thin-set mortar.
Individual parts carry their own coverage too. For example, KERDI membranes, floor drains and KERDI-BOARD panels each have a 10-year warranty; niches and some profiles have 5 years.
What the warranty requires
The right thin-set. Lifetime coverage requires a Schluter thin-set mortar, not just any bag from the store shelf.
Correct installation. Products must be installed following Schluter's technical literature and industry standards.
Coverage starts on the install date.
Schluter's terms change from time to time, so check the current details with Schluter (888-472-4588) for your project.
Why the installer matters
A warranty is only useful if the job was done to spec. Mixing in another brand's mortar or membrane, skipping seams, or using the wrong trowel can all put coverage at risk (see 7 DIY Schluter mistakes). Versa Tile installs the full Schluter system, with Schluter thin-set, the way the warranty expects.

Questions to ask any tile contractor
Which waterproofing system will you use, and is it one brand?
Which thin-set will you use?
Will you flood-test the shower before tiling?
What warranty do I get, from you and from the manufacturer?
